Hiraeth Collection
Hiraeth (pronounced [heer-eye-th]) is a Welsh concept of longing for home. 'Hiraeth' is a word which cannot be completely translated, meaning more than solely "missing something" or "missing home."
Inspired by a two week tent camping trip to the North shore of Lake Superior, my Hiraeth Collection is what I believe to be my most poetic series to date.
I immediately fell in love with the land in Northern Ontario and had a surprising sense of returning home. It is a place where my soul lives and therefore I felt that the word Hiraeth was an apt title for this collection.
In this series I honour my Indigenous heritage by accentuating the sacred feminine, voicing my concerns about climate change, and addressing our evolving relationship with the earth.
