Waabaabagaa Giizis - The Changing Leaves Moon
As the days shorten and the cool air settles in, we welcome Waabaabagaa Giizis, the Changing Leaves Moon.
This moon invites us to pause, notice the beauty in transition, and reflect on the cycles of change. Just as the trees burst into vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold, we too can embrace transformation and find strength in shifting seasons.
“How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days.”
John Burroughs
Here are a few ways to honour this moon:
🌿 Take a hike in Northumberland County. Wander through the Ganaraska Forest or Alderville’s Black Oak Savannah, where the shifting colours bring a reminder of balance and renewal.
🚗 Enjoy a scenic drive. Let the winding roads guide you past rolling hills and lakes lined with fiery reds, golds, and oranges (soon).
🔥 Gather around a fire now that the fire ban has lifted! Share stories, gratitude, or quiet reflection with loved ones, allowing the warmth to connect you to the rhythm of this season.
May today’s Changing Leaves Moon bring you beauty, balance, and gentle transformation.
P.S. Some sad personal news.
Many of you met my cherished little studio dog, Lucy. We recently guided her sweet spirit out of this world and into the next. I’ll include her photo so that you may say Baamaapii (see you again) to her too.
